FAWLEY AFC were undone by a late Zach Glasspool double in a 2-0 Sydenhams Premier home defeat by Andover Town on Saturday.

Former Alresford and Winchester City striker Glasspool broke the deadlock in the 86th minute when, picked out by substitute Javi Santafe Vivo's inch-perfect pass, he shrugged off two challenges before firing low into the net.

Three minutes later Charlie Gunson unselfishly passed up his own chance to score, instead teeing up Glasspool who beat Oilers' keeper Michael Edgar from 15 yards.

As tempers frayed, Andover were awarded a penalty deep into added time for a foul on Gunson. Town’s player/assistant manager Glasspool stepped up, but young Edgar guessed the right way to deny him a ten-minute hat-trick.

Tenth-placed Andover are unbeaten in six under new boss Glenn Burnett, who has invited his old Romsey and New Milton assistant/coach John McFarlane onto the management team.

Burnett and McFarlane also worked together at Blackfield & Langley, where they assisted Ashley Vickers in the Wessex title-winning season of 2012/13, and at Winchester City in the year they won promotion to the Southern League.

"John has been a big part of my football journey and will bring professionalism and make us a lot stronger going forward,” said Burnett.

Another new Portway recruit is former Alresford goalkeeper Jarid Hixon, signed from Fareham Town.

Fawley have signed Conor Whiteley from Andover and the youngster went straight into the squad against his old club.

The Oilers visit Bashley tomorrow (Tuesday, 7.45pm) in the Sydenhams League Cup second round.

*BROCKENHURST'S Mark Barker tops the Wessex goal chart after plundering his 20th and 21st goals of the season in a 3-1 home win over Alresford Town.

Skipper Jake Long also netted for the fifth-placed Badgers with Rob Flooks bagging Alresford's reply.

Brock's new signing Tommy Barnes impressed on his arrival from Totton & Eling.
