Members of the 11th Shirley Brownies recently collaborated on a project with the Nursling Men’s Shed to construct bird boxes from recycled wood.

The project, aimed to earn the Brownies their 'Skills for my Future' badge, was held on two separate evenings in April.

For many Brownies, it marked their first experience using tools such as hammers and screwdrivers.

The Men's Shed group, known for their work in the community, disassembled and reassembled 24 bird boxes. The Brownies then effectively used the presented parts and fastened them together, refining their competency with nails and screws.

Tools used during this activity were supplied by both the Men’s Shed, as well as parents and grandparents. The collaborative event received praise from parents and young participants alike.

Seven-year-old Jaya said: "I loved it and was very proud to use a hammer for the first time."

The Nursling Men’s Shed is part of the wider Men's Shed Association. Working to improve local communities, the group is committed to enhancing wellbeing, mitigating feelings of loneliness and reducing social isolation.
