A HAMPSHIRE country pub will reopen next year after an extensive refurbishment.
The Chestnut Horse, in Easton near Winchester, will open in January following a two-year closure.
Avington Park bought the pub last year and had planning permission granted in June for the work.
The investment will bring the 16th-century pub back to its former glory, including bedrooms and a revamped shop with deli. The previous shop, in a chalet in the car park, had also closed.

It will be under the management of Jacob Riggs. He said: “I am excited to be on board at The Chestnut Horse, as we near the completion of our extensive refurbishment. I am very much looking forward to welcoming guests from January, ensuring that the pub is once again a roaring success – as a place for locals to catch up over a pint with friends, enjoy special occasions or simply pop by a freshly baked loaf of bread.”
The all-day dining menu will feature a range of small plates, pub classics, sharing boards, and seasonal dishes.
A new village shop and deli will provide a welcome addition, offering everyday grocery goods, fresh takeaway items or dishes to heat and eat at home.
The pub has had a fairly chequered history after a previous landlord, Andrew Caldwell, left in 2020.
The most recent landlords were the Bodle family, in 2021.
