BBC South Today's 10.30pm bulletin did not air last night and was instead merged with the BBC South East programme.
The change to the schedule, which left viewers confused, has been attributed to strikes by members of the National Union of Journalists (NUJ) over cuts to local radio.
In a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, NUJ representative Andy Comfort said the change was down to "the continuing Work to Rule by members of @NUJofficial protesting at cuts to BBC Local Radio".

In 2020, the BBC announced a radical overhaul of its content, which put more than 450 jobs at risk, to save £25 million by 2022.
Three years on, the turmoil continues with local radio taking the brunt of cuts and shows axed.
The NUJ said the move is "the biggest threat to local radio since it launched in 1967" arguing it will impact the BBC's ability to provide detailed and thorough news coverage.
The BBC said it has maintained investment in local services and the level of editorial staffing across England is expected to remain unchanged.
