The Royal Victoria Country Park will play host to a sponsored Remembrance walk for the Royal British Legion.

This year’s 3km Poppy Walk will take place on Saturday 11th November. The event is open from 10am, and the walk will start at 11am, following a short collective moment of Remembrance.

Julie Lax, Poppy Appeal Manager in South Hampshire for the Royal British Legion, said: "At Royal British Legion we’re determined never to forget the service and sacrifice of all veterans, of which there are more than 6,500 in Southampton.

"It’s a great chance to get out and about in the fresh air, soak up the stunning countryside and show the Armed Forces community you care.”

The event is part of the Royal British Legion’s Poppy Appeal, which has been running since 1921.

This year’s Remembrance poppy has been given a make-over and will now be completely plastic-free and easily recycled. The new poppies will be sold alongside stock of the original poppy.

Those taking part in the Poppy Walk will receive a medal for taking part and will also receive a wooden poppy tribute that they can personalise and which will be planted in a special field of Remembrance at the National Memorial Arboretum.

Every walker will receive a 10% discount (in-store and online) with Cotswold Outdoor, Runners Need and Snow+Rock.

The walk has an entry fee of £10, and children and dogs can attend free of charge. Participants are encouraged to fundraise and anyone who raises over £100 will receive a free Royal British Legion beanie hat.

The Royal British Legion helps those serving in the armed forces and veterans with everything from recovery from illness and injury, housing, help getting back into work and the cost-of-living crisis.
