HUNDEREDS of runners have flocked to a Hampshire beauty spot to take part in a 10k run.

Around 600 people ran the trail around Royal Victoria Country Park this morning as part of the Netley 10K.

The race has been running for around 45 years and is part of the Hampshire Road Race League.

A large group of volunteer marshals were seen dotted around the park to assist with parking, directions and to hand out water.

A group of students from the University of Winchester studying sports therapies were also on site with their lecturer James Kirkpartick to help out with any medical needs.

Richard Person was the race director of the Netley 10K for more than 30 years but today he handed over the reins to Alice Burch.

He was at the race to help out with the organisation and to support the runners.

He said: "I've handed it all over to Alice today and I'm at a bit of a loose end to be honest.

"We've got about 600 runners of all standards.

"I've been doing it for about 30 years and I think the race has been for about 45 years so it has been going a long time."

Alice said the event had sold out.

She said: "I'm feeling great, it's been really good to get involved and support Southampton Athletics Club and to keep the Netley 10K going.

"It's part of the Hampshire Road League Series so it's a great race, it's a beautiful setting.

"I have run the race a few times and it's a good race.

"We've got a large group of marshals and we have a sell-out event for 2023, which is absolutely brilliant, I'm very pleased."
