Daily Echo: A family fun day will celebrate the coronation at The King Charles in Kings Worthy

The King Charles in Kings Worthy near Winchester is holding a family fun day on Saturday to celebrate the coronation of King Charles III and Queen Camilla.

Sharing a name with the incoming King, the pub’s licensees – Dawn and Darren Anchor – are seizing the opportunity to hold a celebration to remember.

There will be a cake stand run by the local under 11s girls football team, Worthy’s Youth FC, which Dawn and Darren sponsor, towards a defibrillator.

Live music, dance classes for all ages, face painting and a local dog show will all be part of the day’s activities.

Fuller’s horses, Prince and George, will be offering dray rides – plus Alresford Ukelele will be performing in the afternoon. This will all be accompanied by afternoon tea, a barbecue in the evening and plenty of refreshments!

To get their hands on the limited-edition cake, customers have to visit their local Farmhouse Inns wearing a crown or tiara – in celebration of the momentous occasion – and say the phrase "a royal slice" when ordering a cake at the till.

In return for their efforts, lucky recipients will receive a slice of raspberry and lemonade cake, crafted in-house by Farmhouse Inns’ talented ‘cake-a-tiers’.

To mark the historic weekend, Farmhouse Inn is also launching an online competition to crown a customer the ‘King or Queen of carvery or cake’ – with a £2,000 prize plus a year's supply of free carvery or cake going to one lucky winner.
