You can find a list of all the candidates standing in each ward here.

Here is what the candidates are saying:

Olubunmi Debbie Adebayo – Liberal Democrats

Sarah Jane Bogle – Labour

“I’ve represented our diverse ward since 2006. With residents, I’ve worked to improve green space, tackled housing issues and fought controversial planning applications. I’m cabinet member for economic development and push to get money spent in the local economy to benefit us all.”

Tom Brito – Conservatives

“Tom is passionate about Southampton and wants to get involved with bringing improvements for local residents. He is keen to ensure the council delivers value for money for the taxpayer and spends our money effectively.”

Joe Cox – Greens

“Joe has lived in Southampton for 30 years having returned from living and working in southern Spain for a few years. When possible he continues to cycle around the city and works as a part-time gardener. Joe’s vision to help Bargate residents includes the following ideas:

– Stop Southampton City Council planning department signing off so many concrete buildings which then become demolished within a few decades.

– Open spaces like our city parks are vital and the management of Southampton Common needs to be reviewed so as to increase the biodiversity.

– Fully operational Park & Ride for our city. Here we are behind almost every other UK urban settlement by encouraging cars to enter our city and pollute the air.”

Ben Davies – Conservatives

“As a student at the University of Southampton, Ben understands issues important to young people in the city. This is why he feels so passionately about opposing Labour’s dangerous policy of turning off streetlights, which will impact all young people in the city. If elected, he will also work to ensure that the city centre is a great place to do business and improve our economic environment. Ben works for a small business just outside the city centre, so he appreciates how important this is to our image as a city and improving future growth.”

Emma Davis – Greens

“- A vote for £1 bus fares

– A vote for clean air

– A vote for decency and integrity in politics

Please give Emma Davis one of your votes on May 4th.”

James Kevin Dear – Greens

“– A vote for £1 bus fares

– A vote for clean air

– A vote for decency and integrity in politics

Please give James Dear one of your votes on May 4th.”

Donna Dee – Trade Unionist and Socialist Coalition

“I have lived in Southampton for 33 years, currently in the Bargate ward for which I am standing as a candidate in the forthcoming council elections. I am a proud Sotonian, a trans woman but first and foremost I am a socialist. I am standing under the umbrella of the Trade Union and Socialist Coalition (TUSC).

If elected, I will fight for the needs of the many and the marginalised members of our wonderful, diverse community because, unlike the incumbent careerists, I am one of you.”

Michael Dickinson – Liberal Democrats

Graham Michael Henry – Trade Unionist and Socialist Coalition

“I am Graham Henry, TUSC candidate for Bargate. I was born in Northam and have long been associated with the Bargate area, having worked here through the 80s and 90s. For the last 3 years I have been volunteering as a council block resin James Street. I liaise between the council and the residents. Rising prices across the board and a hike in rents and service charges have severely impacted on residents. They are worried. Time for change.”

Reuben Hinchliffe – Liberal Democrats

John Noon – Labour

“I’ve served Bargate for many years, stretching back to the 1980s. In the last 10 years we’ve all seen anti-social behaviour increase, partly due to Tory police cuts. Housing development has exploded locally, but there aren’t enough affordable homes. I will fight to redress this.”

Darren James Paffey – Labour

“Darren Paffey has been a Bargate councillor since 2016 and is the Cabinet Member for Children & Learning. He is a university teacher and has a young family. Darren led the recent expansion of St Mark’s school providing hundreds of secondary places for children in Bargate ward.”

Robert Andrew Saunders – Conservatives

“Rob wants Southampton to meet its full potential and be an even better place for us all to live and work. He is keen to get involved with bringing improvements to the local area and wants to put people at the heart of everything the council does.”
