A HAMPSHIRE post office has become a sea of red, white and blue ahead of the coronation of King Charles III and Queen Camilla.

The aptly-named Coronation Parade Post Office at Hamble has been decorated with royal flags, bunting and balloons - inside and out - as the country prepares to mark the big day.

A large Union Flag emblazoned with an image of King Charles in military uniform has been attached to the railings outside the post office.

Postmistress Mitu Daga said: "With the name of my branch I really had to go to town to mark the Coronation.

"I have been planning this as I was inspired by the talented knitter who last year created a magnificent post box topper to mark the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

"I never found who it was.

"I really wanted to so I could give them a hug and say 'thank you'. It brought such joy to the community and a lot of people wanted to have their photo taken beside it."

A talented yarn bomber made a first-class delivery by attaching a purple and gold "topper" to the pillar box outside the building.

Mitu discovered it one morning when she arrived for work.

Speaking at the time she said: "I would love to know who has created this - I want to give them a hug and say a big 'thank you'.

"The crown is fantastic and I’m not just saying that because it's outside my post office. It’s large, beautifully knitted and decorated with lots of different stones - it's brilliant.

"My customers love it.

"People are coming here with their children and grandchildren to have their photos taken next to it. This is bringing so much joy to the community.

"They keep asking who created it and I just tell them that I wish I knew."

In 2012 a post box in Hamble High Street was painted gold by Royal Mail in honour of Olympic cycling heroine Dani King.

The 21-year-old and her teammates, Joanne Rowsell and Laura Trott, had just won gold in the women's cycling team pursuit event at the London Games.

The coronation takes place on May 6, when the world will witness the first ceremonial crowning of a British monarch for 70 years.

Mitu said: "There are lots of red, white, and blue decorations everywhere. The decorations really lift people’s spirits."
