AN AWARD-WINNING Hampshire landlord has decided to sell his pub after 14 years.

Tim Gray, who was named Landlord of the Year in both 2010 and 2014, runs the The Yew Tree in Lower Wield, Alresford.

Despite turning the pub into a highly successful prospect, the 50-year-old has put the leasehold on the market with an asking price of £145,000.

The sale is to be made through Winchester-based specialist business property adviser Christie and Co.

Tim said: “I’ve had a perfect time - 14 fantastic years. But it’s time to move on. I’m not sure where yet.

“It’s not like your everyday job where you can think were you want to go then leave. I need to sell the pub first.”

The future of the building has not yet been decided, either.

Richard Wood, a senior business agent at Christie and Co, is handling the sale of the pub.

He said: “We’ve had bits of interest but it’s very early. It’s only been on the market for just over a month and these sales take several months.

“However, it has been incredibly well-run by Tim and we hope to sell the property to another publican.”

The Yew Tree occupies a two-storey detached property directly opposite the Lower Wield village cricket pitch.

It is named after the old yew tree growing outside.

The pub also features a two-bedroom owners’ accommodation.

Under Tim’s management, The Yew Tree has undergone major refurbishment in the last 14 years.

It has become a very popular establishment and in 2018 Tim was a runner-up in the Good Pub Guide’s Landlord of the Year. He has been shortlisted again for 2019.
