TV CELEBRITIES Stephanie and Dominic Parker made a flying visit to Hampshire in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang to open a fete.

Memories of the 1968 film starring Dick Van Dyke came flooding back as the eye-catching car was driven through the grounds of Palace House, Beaulieu, by Lord Montagu.

Chitty is among the exhibits at the National Motor Museum, which was established by the previous Lord Montagu in the 1950s.

Known as Steph and Dom, the Parkers gained an army of fans with their appearances on Channel 4’s Gogglebox, the show in which people are filmed in their own homes as they pass judgement on other TV programmes.

After opening Beaulieu Village Fete the couple spent the afternoon visiting stalls and watching the displays.

This year’s theme was nursery rhymes and some of the spectators came dressed as The Mad Hatter and other favourite characters from their childhood.

Members of Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service gave children the chance to aim a hose at a wooden mock-up of a blazing house.

Beaulieu Camera Club staged an exhibition of photographs, some of which were taken by pupils of Beaulieu Village Primary School.

Beaulieu Horticultural Society held a plant sale and Beaulieu Craft Group sold preserves. Waterside Square Dance Club also took part in the event.

Proceeds from the fete will go to Beaulieu Abbey Church and the Beaulieu Common Good Trust, chaired by Lord Montagu, which distributes grants to good causes in the area.
