THOUSANDS of people will line the streets to watch a colourful collection of floats make their way through a Hampshire town today.

The theme of this year’s Lymington Carnival is TV shows – and some of Britain’s best-loved dramas will brought to life by the procession.

At least two of the entries will be based on Call the Midwife, the hit series based on memoirs of Jennifer Worth.

Other floats will portray The Flintstones, Father Ted, Countryfile and Match of the Day – an appropriate choice for a carnival taking place on the same day as the World Cup final.

Staff and customers from The King’s Arms in St Thomas Street will celebrate the world of Only Fools and Horses.

The procession will set off from Lymington Town Hall at 11am and will take about 90 minutes to complete a circular tour of the town centre.

Music will be provided by Bournemouth Carnival Band and the Hampshire Caledonian Pipe Band.

The event will also include a display by the New Forest Dance Academy.

A carnival fete will be held at Lymington Sports Ground in the afternoon.

This year’s carnival queen is Laura Soles, 20, a former pupil of Priestlands School, Lymington, and Brockenhurst College.

Millie Light, five, is the carnival princess and the carnival prince is seven-year-old Braydon John-Philps, who attends Lymington Infant School.
