A HAMPSHIRE woman who suffered from dementia died following a fall at her home.

Doreen Major, 89, was found at her home in Brooke Avenue North, New Milton, by her daughter Jyne after she had fallen in her bedroom.

Ms Major, who had been living her own, was not responding to her family's phone calls on the morning of May 25 this year, so her daughter visited the address. Ms Major was found lying on her bedroom floor and was taken to Southampton General Hospital by an ambulance with a fractured hip. She had surgery to fix it the following day.

While in hospital, Ms Major was on antibiotics for a chest infection she already had, but her condition gradually deteriorated. She was pronounced dead at Southampton General Hospital on June 7.

Senior coroner Graham Short concluded that the chest infection may not have been the cause of the fall, but the consequent operation was an added burden on her body.

Mr Short recorded a verdict of accidental death.
