IT WAS smiles all round at a supermarket celebration event.

Staff at Morrisons in Totton were flying the flag for their new look aisles and counters and new signage on the outside of the building.

Two staff who has racked up an impressive 48 years employment at the store between them were given the task of cutting the celebratory cake.

John Richards and Sue Stephens have worked at the shop since it opened.

For Sue it was her first job, while John changed career from being a lorry driver to training as a fishmonger.

He said: “It hasn’t changed that much since it opened but these new improvements are really nice.”

The revamped ‘Market Street’ has widened aisles and offers customers a tantalising view of buns in the oven, the pizza kitchen, the butchers’ block and a new-look salad bar.

Free Wi-Fi for means customers can tweet and text as they shop.

The Nutmeg children’s range has been expanded to include ladies clothes and customers are chomping at the bit to get their hands on the expanded range of home and leisure ware.

The car park has also been relaid and there are Amazon lockers for shoppers to collect their Amazon purchases.

Store manager, Warren Wake said: “I would like to thank our customers and our staff whose comments have helped us make a store that suits their needs. It’s great to give our loyal customers in Totton something new.”
