IT WAS a roaring success - in more ways than one.

Thousands of petrolheads flocked to the National Motor Museum for the Beaulieu Supercar Weekend, featuring many of the most powerful and desirable cars ever built.

The award-winning museum echoed to the sound of high-octane performances as the prestigious cars were put through their paces.

A total of 600 vehicles are thought to have taken part in the two-day celebration.

More than 5,000 visitors turned up on Saturday, exceeding the figure recorded on the opening day of last year's event, and Sunday's line-up also attracted a bumper crowd.

A Beaulieu spokesman said: "The demonstration runs were really successful with visitors lining Chestnut Drive.

"The Ariel Nomad and KTM X-Bow made the biggest noise as their tyres squealed their tyres off the start line.

"Other highlights included the Supercar Sound-off, was new for this year. The engines of the Jaguar F-Type SVR, Aston Martin Vanquish, McLaren 720S and Range Rover SVR were revved to see which was the most impressive. The crowd cheers declared that the Aston was the winner.

"Battle of the Brands has some amazing cars, as did the Super SUV Secret Garden display."

The 2016 Beaulieu Supercar Weekend attracted about 13,000 spectators and this year's show is thought to have been equally successful.
