Two comedy legends on Mayflower Theatre stage

Once again, two legends of television, show-business and of the Royal Variety Performance come together, accompanied by music and video to reminisce and entertain at Mayflower Theatre for one night only!

In October 2015, Des and Jimmy performed on stage together for the very first time in Sunday Night at the London Palladium and the Guardian newspaper described this sell-out performance as 'a night of theatrical history to be remembered for many years to come'. The huge acclaim with which the show was greeted, prompted a limited run of dates at some of Britain's top theatres.

With continued demand for this rare coming together of the two legends of British showbusiness, they have come back together for a selected number of shows this year.

The evening promises to be ‘good old fashioned family fun’ with original footage, a top band playing and the pair appearing on stage together at various points.

Describing the show Des said: “It is different every time we do it. It is more a party than a show.

“Jimmy said to me that he’s enjoyed this tour more than ever. I said ‘I don’t know about that but when I’m on stage it is the best two hours of any day.’ We absolutely love it”

He recalled that Bournemouth was the setting for an infamous Eric Morecambe joke when in 1967 Des told Eric over a cup of tea near the Pavilion that he wanted to be an international star and got the reply, ‘Yeah, and I’d like to have an affair with Brigitte Bardot, but some things aren’t possible’.

“Eric never stopped ribbing me and you could never come out on top. All in good humour though and the more he insulted me, the more records I sold.

“I remember when I told him I’d just done a one-man show and he said ‘let’s hope two turn up next time’.”
