THIS autumn sees English National Ballet return to Mayflower Theatre to present Sir Kenneth MacMillan’s Manon outside London for only the second time in 30 years.

Famous for its expressive choreography and dramatic challenge, Manon features some of the most demanding and fulfilling roles in ballet, accompanied by Jules Massenet’s haunting music performed live by English National Ballet Philharmonic.

The young and naïve Manon is torn between two lives: privilege and opulence with the wealthy Monsieur GM, or innocent love with the penniless student Des Grieux. Wanting it all will be her downfall.

Aristocrats and beggars, courtesans and harlots fill the stage to take audiences from a gambling den in 18th-century Paris to a desolate Louisiana swamp to share one of British ballet’s most dramatic stories.

On Friday November 2, English National Ballet will host a Live Drawing workshop for a drawing session with a unique viewpoint as English National Ballet dancers take their daily ballet class. The workshop is open to all levels of ability though previous live drawing experience may be advantageous. Participants must bring their own dry drawing materials to the workshop.

English National Ballet Manon runs from Wednesday October 31 til Saturday November 3. Tickets available on: 02380 711811 or at: mayflower.org.uk.
