Higcliffe artist Mary Wilson makes her first visit to the Regent Centre Foyer Gallery in Christchurch from tomorrow (Saturday 30 September) until October 20.
Mary’s passion for art began when she joined Poole Pottery straight from school, working for Guy Sydenham weighing clay and performing other tasks within the pottery. Eventually, Mary was taken on as a paintress at the pottery in the 1960s.
A self-taught artist, Mary has developed her skills through studying and painting a variety of subjects as a hobby. Her preferred medium is oil on canvas, although she has had considerable success using watercolour and still occasionally works with this medium.
Living on the edge of the New Forest has provided plenty of inspiration for her painting, particularly her passion for painting woodlands and trees. More recently, she has been strongly influenced by the work of the American artist, Bob Ross.
Her varied subjects include landscapes, seascapes, people, animals and still life. More recently, she has been undertaking special commissions for her work.
Mary is a member of Highcliffe Art Fellowship, which is based at Greystones community centre in the town and Lymington Art Club.
