A 1906 RENAULT, a crowded marque, extravagant headgear and a complete brass band brought an air of nostalgia to many of the older generation who attended the garden fete held by Southampton General Hospital League of Friends on September 7, 1968.
A “best kept car” competition and a driving skill contest were both won by Mr T J Ward of Southampton, with a glamorous Austin Mini.
The 1906 Renault was lent by Lord Montagu and was driven by Mr D Maidment.
Music by Bellemoor Boys’ Brass Band added to the festive air and a dog show went off smoothly.
The fete raised £1,543 – a record for the event.
