London Bridge was sold to American entrepreneur Robert P. McCulloch who went on to rebuild it at Lake Havasu City, Arizona. The structure was sold for £1,029,000 on April 18.

On April 20, Enoch Powell made his controversial Rivers of Blood speech on immigration. Powell was dismissed from the Shadow Cabinet the next day, despite several opinion polls revealing that the majority of the public shard his fears.

The Abortion Act 1967 came into effect on April 27, which legalised abortion on a number of grounds and included free provision through the National Health Service.
