It was about to hit Netley for the fifth time and organisers were expecting the biggest turn-out yet.
More than 25,000 visitors flocked to the see the Hampshire County Show in 1986 – it was hoped more would turn up the following year on the weekend of August 14, 1987.
Show director Ian Young told the Echo: “We are confident this year will be even better. We’ve introduced a second arena this time to pack in even more entertainment, and we’re keen to make it a family day out, so there is something for everyone.”
Entertainment ranged from a full-scale recreation of a battle involving Saxon warriors to a health and beauty marquee and fashion show.
As well as that, visitors could take in the flower displays and craft stalls or spend time watching the skydiving and American football.
