IT WAS a blisteringly hot day – the perfect weather for a country show.
Children were entertained with a funfair, fancy dress and Punch and Judy shows, while their parents enjoyed the sunshine.
The Ellingham Show was held on August 8, 1998, and included a horse and cart display by the New Forest Disabled Driving group, sheep and gun dog demonstrations, falconry displays and heavy horse trials. But the main highlight of the day was the grand parade of livestock in the arena.
Show commentator Mike Lingham-Willgoss said: “We have had an even better attendance than we expected.
“Thousands have been flocking here to soak up the sun – surrounding roads were all blocked with people trying to get in.”
Despite the sweltering heat, record entries were seen in the cattle, sheep, goat and horse sections.
Music filled the air from the Hyde Brass Band and the Plonkers Agricultural Orchestra, while much-needed liquid was provided by the Ringwood Brewery beer tent.
