HUNDREDS turned out for the final exhibition of the market town’s World War One Project.

Held as part of the Romsey Festival, the exhibit documented all the events that have been held over the last two years which the community have been involved in along with their research.

Also on display was a map from 1909 which detailed just where camps where set up around the town along with the business and just how they were affected and for some how they adapted for the four years of war.

A selection of names from the town’s Roll of Honour had also been selected and mapped out to show the impact on the families of the town.

Around the town these homes had also been asked to place a poppy in their window with details of its occupants, creating a poppy trail around the town.

These homes have now been invited to turn these into plaques for the brave men of Romsey. Anyone else who knows their house was once home to a Romsey soldier are invited to get in touch if they would like to join in with the plaques.

Also joining organisers, the Abbey United Reformed Church, were Sibro, England’s leading Virtual Reality company. Sibro offered the opportunity to experience a battlefield trip, visiting some of the landmarks that their own trip will see when they head out to France on the September 23.

For those who still have information they would like to share project lead, Sarah Stewart, would still welcome any help.

Speaking about the project and exhibition, she stated that for her the project is not over.

She said: “The project will not be complete until we have at least attempted to trace all 1658 names from the towns roll of honour of which we are about half way through.

“Families are still coming forward with information and photos and I would urge them to get in touch so their information can be added. I have learnt so much about the town I call home but feel that there is still so much yet to be uncovered, this project has barely touched the surface.”
