THIS aerial view taken in October 1957 of Southampton’s then newest roundabout gave readers at the time a birds-eye view of the top of Houndwell Park, and the new road, Lower Palmerston Road (as it was known then before becoming Queensway), leading from Houndwell and up towards the direction of the docks, crossing East Street and Bernard Street.
Edwin Jones’ new store, as it was then known at the time before it became known as Debenhams, and the new blocks of flats are also a feature of the landscape in this photograph and can be seen on the left of the new road.
